Avocets

There are 4 different species of Avocets found around the world.Pied Avocets,Rednecked Avocet ,Andean Avocet,and American Avocet.This bird is found in North and South America,Europe,and even Australia,this  long-legged bird has webbed feet and an upturned,thin bill.They live in large colonies and have been known to become quite aggressive and defensive,if feel threatened.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Avocets are primarily cornivorous in nature.They consume aquatic invertebrates,insects,small crustaceans and seeds.They sometimes feed on small fish too.The bird has a long,upturned beak,which is ascillates at either side in water to catch the pray.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The Avocets both male and female  act quite  pecuilar on the arrival of breeding season.The birds are seen to be engaging in complex courtships. The male member seek the attention of the female by splashing water on itself.These birds usually nest on the ground, which  are efficiently lined with grass,feathered and so forth.The female usually 3-4 small green-brown eggs that are incubated by the male members.The hachlings leave the nest within one day of hatching.
